Past Routines

Conditionals with if
  • Real conditional
We use this conditional when we want to talk about future possibility. It is something that could happen.
 
             If + present tense + will + base tense
 
 examples:
                 If I finish my homework, I will go with you.
                 If she goes, I will see her.
 
  • Present Unreal conditional
We use it, when we want to talk about  present or future unreal or imagined situations or to give advice.
 
          If + past tense + would + base tense
 
 examples:
                 If I won the lottery, I would travel around the world.
                 If  I were you, I would stop taking so many risks.
                
 
  • Past Unreal conditional
We use this conditional when we want to talk about regrets, unreal or imagined situations in the past.
           
          If + past perfect + would have + past participle
 
examples:
                If  I hadnot had children in my 20s, I would have traveled more.
                If he had heard the weather forecast, He wouldn't have gone hiking in the montains.
